Jarred Pierce, CEO and Founder of Unity Preferred Network, is reshaping the healthcare network space. With 24 years of experience in the industry, he has witnessed both innovation and stagnation—and has built Unity to address the gaps he saw firsthand.
“Before launching Unity, I noticed that many established networks hadn’t evolved much beyond the value they provided back in the early 2000s,” Pierce says. “At the same time, new products often focused on just one side of the industry, which inadvertently limited providers’ options and forced many into early retirement or closure.”
He continues, “We’re now at a critical point where insurance companies are expanding into roles as medical providers and pharmacies. This kind of consolidation ultimately won’t benefit consumers or improve the overall healthcare landscape in this country.”
These observations shaped his vision for Unity Preferred Network, a company built to keep both providers and clients at the center. “As a privately owned company, we have the flexibility to serve clients across every part of our business,” Pierce explains. “Our team brings a unique perspective—many of us grew up in this industry and have experience with our competitors. That insight allows us to provide real value and clearly show why our model stands out. We also take pride in pricing our services fairly while consistently delivering strong results.”
Unity’s mission-driven approach is what keeps him emotionally invested. “What keeps me going is my deep passion for our mission and my commitment to driving positive change while adapting to the evolving market, client needs, and industry trends,” he says. “This is work I’ve dedicated my career to, and there’s nothing else I would rather do.”
Pierce emphasizes the team’s alignment as another key motivator: “I’m incredibly grateful for our team and partners. We’re completely aligned on our goals, and I’m excited to keep working together until we achieve everything we’ve set out to accomplish. Everyone on our team is genuinely invested and truly loves what we do—it’s that shared dedication that keeps us moving forward, even during challenging phases.”
At Unity, success isn’t just financial. “We measure success by the growth and diversity of our provider network and the satisfaction of our members, payers, and providers,” he says. “Our goal is to ensure that everyone we serve has their needs fully met. Equally important is employee retention and the personal milestones our team members achieve for themselves and their families.”
He reflects on the joy of seeing his team thrive: “Many of our current team members previously worked with me in networks I’ve built or owned, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see their ongoing dedication and happiness within Unity.”
Maintaining a clear vision has been a consistent priority for Unity. “As we’ve grown, we’ve been thoughtful about how we approach partnerships and opportunities,” Pierce says. “It’s important for us to stay aligned with our long-term goals and ensure that anything we pursue ultimately supports the clients and providers we serve. We’re always open to collaboration, but we approach it with a focus on creating meaningful, sustainable value.”
Much of Unity’s work is centered on thoughtful planning and long-term alignment with client needs. “We take a proactive approach to building and supporting our network,” Pierce explains. “That means staying closely connected to our clients, understanding where they’re going, and making sure we’re positioned to support them as their needs evolve. Our focus is always on being prepared, responsive, and delivering a consistent experience.”
Looking ahead, Pierce is focused on aligning with industry trends and client needs. “We’re constantly looking ahead—forecasting where the market is going and identifying opportunities where we can be both profitable and beneficial for population health,” he says. “Equally important is continuing to serve both providers and clients effectively. We aim to help providers remain independent and profitable, so they aren’t absorbed by insurance carriers—a trend that can reduce quality of care, increase denials, and limit provider autonomy.”
Education is also a critical part of his vision. “We guide clients beyond relying solely on traditional insurance plans, helping them see that leveraging a tailored network like ours often provides a better experience at a lower cost. Over the next five years, we hope more brokers recognize this trend and choose the thoughtful, value-driven approach rather than the easiest option.”
If Unity were to scale 10x, Pierce says the focus would remain on strengthening the network and supporting continued growth. “As we grow, our priority is making sure we continue to meet the needs of our clients and providers at a high level,” he explains. “That means investing in our team, expanding our capabilities, and ensuring our network continues to evolve alongside the market. We’ve always believed in reinvesting into the business to support long-term success and stability.”
On handling setbacks, Pierce emphasizes collaboration and perspective. “I rely on my business partners and our collective expertise. Even as the leader of Unity, I make it a point to listen—especially to those who have more experience or have achieved greater success than I have. It’s not about forcing a decision; it’s about re-evaluating, adjusting, and figuring out the best way to move forward.”
He also values personal time to recharge. “On a personal level, I reset by taking mental breaks. I love to travel, and I also enjoy getting out on the golf course. Even though I’m deeply committed to my work, these moments help me recharge and come back with a fresh perspective.”
For Pierce and Unity Preferred Network, the focus isn’t just on scaling a business—it’s on reshaping an industry, prioritizing providers and clients, and investing in people at every level. “This is about building something sustainable, something that truly delivers value for everyone involved,” he says. “That’s what keeps me motivated every single day.”
