EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard- a simple solution to recover your data deleted by mistake

Updated on January 15, 2022

The holidays are great times to take lots of photos. You accumulate them and then copy them to your computer with the belief that you will never lose them. Then comes the day when a family member mistakenly deletes the entire folder where you stored those precious digital snapshots. Your first instinct will probably be to panic. Fortunately, there is a solution: data recovery software like the one from EaseUS.

Since I made IT my profession, I try as much as possible to educate Mr. and Mrs. everyone to make backup copies of their data on different storage media. We are never safe from a “crash” of its primary hard drive that could cause us to lose gigabytes (GB) of data.

Erasing data by mistake, there is a useful and simple solution

You will have understood from my preamble that it is always wise to have a copy of your regularly updated data on more than one storage medium. If the first one just breaks or you delete data by mistake, you will always have a copy on another medium that you can recover.

But what if you mistakenly delete data on the only storage medium where it was saved? There are a few software solutions to recover them. However, part of the traces left by a piece of data can be erased by new data recorded on the same medium. Therefore, it is recommended that you stop all activity on the media where data has been lost before using any data recovery services. This increases the chances of getting them back.

The “EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard” software has been simplified for beginners …

As a computer technician, I have tried several data recovery software for PC over the years. For the newbie who doesn’t know much about computers, this type of software can be rather tedious to use.

Thus, as soon as the software is launched, the wizard simply asks to select the storage medium (designated by a drive letter in Windows Explorer), then to click on the “Analyze” button. And that’s all !

On this screen, the tool offers the possibility to select a particular folder of the storage medium which will be displayed in priority at the top of the list of results on the next screen.

The display of results is also quite easy to understand. First, the tool does a quick “surface” scan of the storage media to list all the files in the location selected in step 1 that were simply deleted or emptied from the Windows Recycle Bin. They are displayed at the top of the folder list on the left.

The software then automatically performs a more in-depth scan in what is called the “data area” of the storage device. It will then list all the files on the disk and not just those that have been found in the meanders of the media. Obviously, this in-depth search in this area takes much longer to analyze.

Important thing to note: this software may attempt to recover data that has been lost due to a physical failure of a storage medium (bad sectors). It can also find files from a “partition” of the storage media that has been deleted.

When the search is complete, you see a huge list of folders and files. The count displayed in the top bar can also be astronomical. During a scan test of my primary hard drive where Windows is installed, it counted over 500,000 files.

Fortunately, the tool allows you to apply filters for the display of results. A click on the dedicated section at the top of the software allows you to select a quick filter to display, for example, only images or audio files in the list of results.

For its part, the “Advanced filter” allows you to choose additional filter options such as file type (Microsoft Office document, PDF, photos, etc.), a modification date, a file size and the initial letter of. one or more files.

Data preview and recovery

Clicking on a folder in the results list in the left pane displays the contents of that folder in the right pane. It is possible to preview any of the files found by the software by clicking on it in the right pane and clicking on the eye icon at the top of the tool.

File preview

Note: The preview may not work for various reasons. Most likely, the file in question is corrupted (part of its “traces” may have been replaced by those of another file). It is then also likely that its recovery will be impossible. To recover one or more files and folders, all you have to do is check the box or boxes associated with them and click on the “Recover” button.

Overall, “EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard” is a good tool. It is easy to use for the novice person and does the job well. I managed to recover without issue all the data I deleted from a test external hard drive and even beyond (it recovered old data that dated from a previous formatting of the media).
