Self-care is anything we can do to improve your wellness and happiness. Mental health starts with self-care because even if you are taking medication and seeing mental health professionals without the belief that you are worth taking care of and doing those things that make you feel a little then it is harder to deal with mental health challenges.

Many people don’t practice self-care because they feel it is indulgent or unnecessary, but it is imperative to take care of yourself, otherwise, you are less able to take care of those around you. Here are 4 reasons why self-care is important for mental health. 

Avoidance

Self-care helps you to avoid suffering from mental health issues such as stress, anxiety, and insomnia. Self-care includes eating properly and regularly, getting enough sleep, and making time to exercise.  All of these things will make you feel better generally.  It is amazing how good you feel after a good night’s sleep and how much harder it seems if you have been burning the midnight oil again.
