Seven Tips on How to Make an Effective Healthcare Resume

104

I have experience of missing a good career opportunity due to a poorly formatted resume. I had a great education and was certain in my skills, which made me rather secure while applying for a position of an orthodontist at a very promising private clinic. Due to personal issues, I did not have enough time to spend on formatting my resume. I did not listen to my friends who had advised me to ask someone else, experts or similar resume writing companies, to format my CV and recklessly sent a rather weak document to my potential employers.

Eventually, HR managers of the clinic did not respond for around two weeks, and when I finally decided to call them, they told me that I was considered to be an inappropriate candidate for the position. Even now, I still think that the primary reason for my missed career opportunity had been a poorly-formatted CV. In order to make you avoid such mistakes, I present you seven most relevant tips for a strong resume that will increase your chances of being accepted at your dream work.

1. Mind the Formatting

An essential aspect of a successful resume is its formatting. It is the way you arrange the information in your document. “Formatting is not only about making the review of your resume more comfortable for HR managers but also about showing your deliberate approach to work”, says a writing expert from EssayYoda. While being engaged in the domain of healthcare, you are required to work with diverse documents. If you deny the basic principles of resume formatting, you may be considered to be a reckless worker, and the content of your CV can even be not reviewed.

2. Do Not Cheat

Often, there is a temptation to make up facts about yourself in order to increase your chances of being accepted at your dream job. Remember, you should never follow such a desire because all the information about your educational and professional experience is stored in databases. Your potential employees can easily review it and determine if you are presenting fake facts. Needless to say, that in such a situation, you will have no chances to be hired.

3. Support Your CV With a Recommendation

Sometimes, you should support your resume with a recommendation from an experienced professional. In some case, a review of your qualities from a university teacher will suit. There are also situations in which you have to provide your potential employers with information from a completely independent professional. Anyway, mind that such a recommendation should be free from any bias and completely objective.

4. Mind Marketing

You should understand that your professional resume is your primary marketing tool. Make it more attractive and notable by introducing different self-promoting techniques. You may add interesting facts, a memorable design, or emphasize your features according to the resume’s target audience and the moment when to apply for a job. Just remember that your healthcare CV still has to conform to all standards of professional resume formatting

5. Do Not Tell Too Much

You should never add too much information in your resume. Overloaded with facts about your achievements, a person reviewing your CV can easily miss the most important points about you as a professional. Also, bear in mind that particular employers can understand the excessive wordiness as your drawback. You may have rich experience in healthcare practice and a long list of certificates, but you should never overload your resume with an explanation of such achievements.

6. Do Not Tell Too Little

If your resume is too short, your potential employers can underestimate your professional experience. Remember including all the most important facts about yourself in the CV. While working on a resume, you should maintain a balance. This point means telling all the most significant information without excessive wordiness.

7. The More Headings – The Better

Traditional formatting of a resume requires you to use a rather insignificant number of headings. At the same time, you are free to add even more headings in order to organize your resume. Headings help you to distinguish your skills, experiences, and personal traits into a more significant number of categories. In some cases, a higher number of headings improves the experience of a person who reviews your resume.

Conclusion

A well-developed resume is essential for your career. From my personal experience, I understand the value of its proper formatting for employment opportunities in the domain of healthcare. Also, you should avoid presenting fake information, support your resume with recommendations, know what is the best way to apply for a job, perceive resume as your marketing tool, maintain a balance in terms of wordiness, and use more headings in it. Anyway, resume matters, and you should approach it with maximum responsibility.
