New President Named for UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh

UPMC today announced the appointment of Diane Hupp as the new president of UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Hupp began her career at UPMC Children’s 36 years ago as a volunteer. Through the years, she served in various administrative leadership roles, to most recently serving in a dual role as chief nursing officer and vice president of Patient Care Services and vice president of Operations.

“I am immensely proud that we found the leader with the expertise, business acumen, compassion and commitment to build upon the excellent reputation of this nationally ranked pediatric hospital right here within our own walls,” said Mark Sevco, president, UPMC Hospitals. “Diane has dedicated her many talents to our goal of providing the right care for every patient, every time, while inspiring high patient and family satisfaction.”

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Hupp has been at the forefront leading the response efforts at UPMC Children’s and integral to the success of UPMC’s COVID-19 community vaccination efforts, leading coordination of the largest drive-through mass vaccination clinic in partnership with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

“It is a great honor and privilege to now serve as president of UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh,” said Hupp. “Delivering the highest level of care to our children and families has been a passion for the majority of my life and I am simply humbled and grateful for the opportunity. The community and beyond needs us now more than ever as we commit to continuing to serve all who seek our care.”

With Hupp’s leadership, UPMC Children’s has achieved two Magnet® designations with work in progress toward a third. Her vision and leadership led to the opening of a hospital-within-a-hospital concept, bringing the expertise of UPMC Children’s to Central Pennsylvania. She also spearheaded a pediatric transplant network on the East Coast to include University of Virginia and Florida Hospital for Children, training and providing leadership to ensure more opportunity for children awaiting transplant.

Hupp earned a master’s degree in Nursing Administration, and a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Duquesne University, and a doctorate in Nursing Practice from the University of Pittsburgh.
