Following a comprehensive national search, Cedars-SinaiPresident and CEO Thomas M. Priselac announced that Richard V. Riggs, MD, has been selected to be Cedars-Sinai’s senior vice president of Medical Affairs and chief medical officer.
“Dr. Riggs, who currently serves as vice president, chief medical information officer and chair of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, has an extraordinary track record leading multidisciplinary teams focusing on clinical quality, safety and efficiency,” Priselac said. “His executive leadership skills have also been demonstrated during the planning, development and operation of the California Rehabilitation Institute.”
As chief medical information officer since 2015, Riggs has worked closely with Cedars-Sinai’s clinical staff to ensure that our information technology strengthens their ability to care for our patients. Throughout his 25-year career at Cedars-Sinai, Riggs has earned a reputation for listening, collaborating across departments and leading key initiatives. He has led numerous departmental and institutional quality and safety initiatives that have improved patient care.
In his role as chief medical strategy officer and chief of staff of the California Rehabilitation Institute since 2015, Riggs has led the development of the physician staff and, along with the other members of the institute, has been instrumental in the very rapid and very successful growth of the organization, helping to bring its vision to fruition.
As senior vice president of Medical Affairs and chief medical officer, Riggs will oversee clinical quality and medical standards to ensure the effective use of clinical resources in the provision of high-quality care to the patients at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Cedars-Sinai Marina del Rey Hospital. Riggs will fill the position vacated by Michael Langberg, MD, who retired.
