Alpha Medical makes its skincare debut today with a collection of anti-aging and acne treatments featuring the brand’s tretinoin cream and suite of supporting products including cleansers, moisturizers, and sunscreen. Alpha is the first consumer health company to disrupt and own the full cycle of diagnosis to treatment in the $100B+ women’s health category. It is a full-stack health services brand that enables easy access to online diagnosis and prescription treatment, and focuses on healthcare’s primary decision-maker – the female in the household. Alpha believes that the healthcare journey starts with basic medical needs. Offering hormonal contraceptives, acne & anti-aging treatment, and elective cosmetic therapy, Alpha patients have access to a single team of clinical guidance, unified support for both insurance-covered and outside-of-insurance conditions, along with free shipping right to their home in a single discreet box.
One in four women in the United States who obtain contraceptive services seek these services at publicly funded family planning clinics. But a lack of transportation, inability to take time off from work, and the cost to see a provider in the office can all impede a women from accessing the services they need. High out-of-pocket costs, deductibles, and copayments for contraception also limit contraceptive access even for those with private health insurance.

Alpha believes that the future of health services and product delivery – whether prescription or over-the-counter (OTC), insurance or cash-based, will be a simple and personalized long-term subscription commerce experience supported by a team of AI-assisted doctors and pharmacies.
Mary Jacobson, MD, Chief Medical Director at Alpha Medical, shares, “I’m a physician, surgeon, and educator. As a young woman, I was strongly influenced by my mother who was participating in the civil rights movement in the 60’s. I soon became aware of inequalities and disparities at a young age. It’s been some time since then, and I have been seeking to pull together my two paths – helping people, and fighting against inequality.” She adds, “Alpha has given me just that opportunity. Our mission is woman-centered and access focused – which I love.”
Alpha has its own team of licensed clinicians who are trained in providing care. They prescribe appropriate treatments once a patient signs up online. The patient’s prescription is then delivered to their home and refilled automatically.
Alpha offers a variety of generic and brand-name birth control pills, the ring (NuvaRing), and the patch (Xulane). Patients can choose to pay directly or use insurance, and there is a one-time medical consultation fee of $10.
Alpha recently launched a suite of skincare treatments that target acne and anti-aging, further building a platform where women can access all of their primary healthcare needs. They currently offer topical and oral prescription treatments, including Doxycycline and the active ingredients in Retin-A, Epiduo, and Benzaclin.
Dr. Jacobson adds, “The best part is that the Alpha team speaks for itself. It’s full of smart, dedicated, and talented people from different backgrounds and industries – and it’s led by women for women. The environment gives me a chance to step out of my own comfort zone. I love working with smart, dedicated, talented people and serving the women who need the convenience and access that Alpha provides. I see myself as a servant leader and am here to provide the clinical care that women deserve.”
Alpha’s mission is to increase patient access to simple, everyday medical needs, empower women, and provide medical services in a discreet, convenient, online process. Alpha is the future of women’s health services.
Alpha has seen significant traction acquiring new customers, starting with a couple of market-opening therapies that are suitable for the majority of the female demographic. “It’s sort of a combination of One Medical and Netflix”, shares Co-founder and CEO, Gloria Lau. “We believe that the future of health services and product delivery, whether prescription or OTC, insurance-covered or cash, will have a simple and personalized commerce experience supported by a team of AI-assisted doctors and pharmacies.” Gloria headed up data products at Linkedin, and was VP of Data at Timefulwhich was acquired by Google. She is also a consulting faculty at Stanford.
