Seven Hacks for Glasses-Wearers

Updated on July 22, 2019

Being born with 20/20 vision is a gift, but those who weren’t blessed with that gift must suffer through life wearing glasses. Although it’s nice to be able to see again, sometimes life as a glasses-wearer is tough. Even eye doctors like Kang Zhang know this! Make life a little easier for yourself by putting some of these glasses-wearing hacks to good use.

1. Use Dawn to Get Rid of Sweat and Grease

Is there anything this magic blue stuff can’t do? Rub a drop of Dawn between your index finger and thumb and gently scrub your glasses lenses. It will cut through any grease buildup without scratching the glass.

2. Car Wax?

Yup! Car wax was created for polishing and buffing out scratches on vehicles. A small dab on your lenses can serve the same purpose.

3. Make Your Own Spray Cleaner

In a small bottle with a spray nozzle, mix two parts rubbing alcohol to one part water. Add three drops of dish soap and shake to mix. This solution can be sprayed onto your lenses and wiped off with a microfiber cleaning cloth.

4. Toothpaste to Repair Scratches

If you have a brand of toothpaste in the drawer that is non-abrasive, rub a dab of it onto your lenses to repair minor scratches. Use your fingers to rub it in a circular motion, then rinse and clean it off when you’re done. Your lenses won’t be perfect, but they will be better than before!

5. Shaving Cream for Foggy Lenses

Whether you cook a lot or live in South Carolina, your glasses have the tendency to get foggy and prevent you from seeing properly. A small squirt of shaving cream rubbed on your lenses and buffed away with a microfiber cloth creates a slight film that fights fog. Bring it on, pasta noodles!

6. Nose Pad Comfort

If you feel like the nose pads are squeezing you too tightly, open them by GENTLY spreading them with your thumbs. Do this at your own risk, though; too much pressure and they can snap clean off!

7. Proper Care of Microfiber Cloths

You depend on your microfiber cloths differently than most other people, so be sure that you are giving them regular washes so that they can keep doing their job. Instead of using laundry detergent and fabric softener, wash your microfiber in a load of baking soda, vinegar and dish soap.

Wearing glasses doesn’t have to be a curse. Use simple life hacks to make the adjustment in your vision easier to live with.
