Patina primary care available as in-network option for Aetna, Cigna Healthcare and UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plan members across 10 counties

Patina, a relationship-centered primary care provider dedicated to improving the healthcare and aging experience for people 65 and older, is expanding to serve members enrolled in participating Medicare Advantage plans across the Charlotte region beginning in July. Patina primary care is available at no extra cost to more than 100,000 people who participate in Aetna, Cigna Healthcare and UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plans across the following 10 counties in North and South Carolina: Mecklenburg, Union, Gaston, Cabarrus, York, Chester, Lancaster, Lincoln, Iredell and Rowan counties.

Designed specifically for older adults, Patina meets individuals on their terms through a convenient and highly personalized model that includes virtual care visits and in-home visits when needed. This eliminates the need for patients to drive, park and wait for primary care appointments and makes Patina’s primary care experience accessible to anyone in the 10-county area.

“We’ve flipped the traditional primary care model on its head to give older adults the kind of primary care experience they deserve – one where they are truly seen and heard and, most importantly, have the opportunity to live their best lives and age independently at home,” says Patina CEO Jack Stoddard. “By taking a proactive approach that meets patients on their own terms, we get to really understand who they are and provide personalized care that’s aligned with their unique values, preferences and goals. We are excited to partner with leading health plans to serve new patients across the Charlotte area.”

Every Patina patient is assigned a dedicated team that includes a primary care practitioner and Patina Health Champion, who serves as the go-to resource to help with legwork, navigating the complex healthcare system, coordinating care and connecting individuals to valuable community and health plan resources. Patina also makes it easy for patients’ family members and loved ones to participate in care planning and visits.

“Primary care should function as your partner, helping you to lead care for your total health, making sure your needs are met and that your values and preferences are followed over time,”   says Neil Patel, M.D., Patina’s Chief Health Officer. “This is why Patina takes the time to build deep, trusted relationships with every patient we serve, so they can receive the dignity, empathy and care that they deserve.”
