The group’s work ensures people will have access to quality care by saving millions of dollars
Noridian Healthcare Solutions, LLC (Noridian), a leader in developing solutions for federal, state and commercial health care programs, is excited to welcome Anna Lee Amarnath, MD, MPH, to its Medical Policy team as a Contractor Medical Director (CMD). Leveraging a decade of practice and medical policy experience, Dr. Amarnath will work closely with Noridian’s 17 other CMDs to review and revise local coverage determinations (LCDs) and develop new policies. This work ensures Medicare beneficiaries receive high-quality care, and providers and suppliers are correctly reimbursed.
“Noridian’s CMDs and the entire medical policy team play a crucial role in ensuring the correct policies are being implemented, safeguarding the Medicare program for people who rely on it for quality health care now and in the future. We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Amarnath because her skillset and experience will help us continue this important work,” explains Fred Mamuya, MD, Vice President of Medical Policy at Noridian.
The CMDs collaborate extensively with several organizations, including CMS, other Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs), and Department of Justice (DOJ), to provide input into the development, interpretation, and applications of LCDs. The team currently maintains more than 200 LCDs across several Medicare Jurisdictions. Noridian’s exemplary work in this field has resulted in nearly $700 million dollars of savings for the Medicare Trust Fund.
“I am honored to support Medicare beneficiaries and the providers who care for them by joining the talented Noridian team,” says Amarnath. “I look forward to using my experience to advise and implement medical policies that will enable equitable, high-quality and affordable care for CMS and the millions of people who rely on Medicare.”
Board-certified in family medicine, Dr. Amarnath completed her medical training and master’s in public health at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston before completing her residency at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle. She completed further training in Quality, Safety, and Comparative Effectiveness Research at University of California, Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. In addition to providing full-spectrum primary care services, Dr. Amarnath served California’s Medicaid program as Chief of Managed Care Medical Policy and Oversight for the California Department of Health Care Services. She also held a leadership role with Integrated Healthcare Association, coordinating encounter data improvement efforts and value-based healthcare performance improvement programs.
