Seton Hall University is excited to announce the College of Nursing’s new M.S.N., Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program, which prepares advanced practice nurses to excel in a wide range of patient care services. The 100% online program is designed to meet the demands of the ever-evolving healthcare landscape and offers unparalleled opportunities for personal and professional growth.
The College is offering virtual information sessions for those interested in learning more about the M.S.N. in Family Nurse Practitioner program. You can register for the next sessions on October 26 from 6 to 7 p.m. and November 7 from 2 to 3 p.m.
The M.S.N.-F.N.P. program specializes in family, adult, and pediatric nursing, positioning students for rewarding careers with abundant job prospects in diverse healthcare settings. Whether students aspire to provide primary or specialty care, the program equips them with the necessary expertise to succeed across the lifespan, from neonates to gerontological services.

Students who pursue their M.S.N.-F.N.P. have an advantage. “Our program boasts strong affiliations with esteemed community healthcare institutions, including Atlantic Health and Hackensack Meridian Health,” said Interim Dean Kristi Stinson, Ph.D., R.N., A.P.N.-B.C. “These partnerships provide students with invaluable opportunities, as many of the executive leaders and advanced practice leaders at top New Jersey institutions are proud alumni of Seton Hall nursing programs. This advantage enhances the program’s ability to attract and recruit exceptional graduate students.”
Through comprehensive coursework and hands-on clinical experiences, students gain expertise in providing exceptional healthcare. The program equips them with the necessary tools to make independent clinical judgments and excel in patient care. Students engage in peer review, advocate for clients, build collaborative relationships, and negotiate their roles within interdisciplinary teams.
Led by experienced faculty, students study theories of advanced nursing practice and learn to make independent clinical judgments. Courses cover advanced theory and practice, clinical pharmacology, advanced health assessment and clinical decision making, major forces in healthcare, and professional role enactment. Students also gain insights into the peer review process, client advocacy, role negotiation, and the development of collaborative, interdisciplinary relationships.

Recognizing that many nursing students maintain full-time employment while pursuing their advanced degree, the College of Nursing offers part-time study options. “The program structure is designed with students’ busy schedules in mind, allowing them to strike a balance between work, life, and family responsibilities. Asynchronous courses provide flexibility, enabling students to engage with course materials and assignments at their preferred time,” said Neville. “This approach ensures a seamless integration of education into existing commitments without sacrificing quality or personal well-being.”
As part of the program, students complete 600 hours of preceptor-supervised clinical practice across the lifespan. Graduates are eligible to sit for the American Academy of Nurse Practitioner (AANPCB) or the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Family Nurse Practitioner examinations, further expanding their professional opportunities.
