Revolutionizing Infectious Disease Testing: Inside HealthTrackRx’s New Louisville Lab

Updated on September 16, 2025

HealthTrackRx has opened its most advanced facility yet—a $45 million molecular diagnostic lab in Louisville, Kentucky. The new site, built directly within the UPS Healthcare Labport at WorldPort, aims to transform the way infectious diseases are diagnosed and treated nationwide.

At the center of this strategic expansion is Martin Price, Executive Chairman and CEO of HealthTrackRx, whose vision for next-morning diagnostic testing is helping to transform healthcare delivery nationwide.

“At HealthTrackRx, speed is everything,” Price says. “Our mission is to deliver infectious disease answers the very next morning so physicians can confidently decide whether to prescribe—and, if so, which treatment will work. That model requires a logistics backbone unlike any other.”

That backbone is found in Louisville, where the company is now fully integrated with UPS Healthcare’s global logistics hub.

“Every night, UPS Healthcare collects patient samples from more than 5,000 healthcare facilities nationwide and delivers them to WorldPort around midnight,” he explains. “From there, our team begins testing immediately so that patients and physicians have answers in hand the very next morning.”

By placing its new facility directly on the UPS Healthcare campus, HealthTrackRx has streamlined its entire testing ecosystem.

“We’ve created full integration with the UPS Control Tower, enabling real-time tracking from pick-up to delivery,” Price says. “This is now the world’s most advanced, automated, and scalable molecular testing lab, ensuring that whether you live in a major city or a rural community, you have access to the same high-quality diagnostics once reserved for academic medical centers.”

Inside the Lab: Built for Speed, Precision, and Scale

HealthTrackRx has taken the lessons of nearly a decade in diagnostics and applied them to a facility that is built for both current and future needs.

“Molecular (PCR) technology has advanced rapidly, and we’ve taken the lessons from nearly a decade in the field to build a platform that combines the best science, automation, and scalability,” Price says.

The lab features equipment from top manufacturers, including Thermo Fisher Scientific, Hamilton, Hologic, Abbott, and Luminex, all selected for their ability to deliver fast and accurate results at scale.

“Our lab integrates equipment from leading manufacturers, carefully curated to ensure every sample is processed with speed, precision, and accuracy,” he adds.

Currently, the lab can process more than five million samples annually, with built-in room to expand.

“Importantly, the lab is designed to adapt to emerging threats, whether that’s routine infectious disease testing or the next major public health crisis,” Price explains.

Investing in Talent and Growing Local Jobs

While the facility itself is high-tech, it’s also a significant investment in people. HealthTrackRx has already created 230 full-time, high-paying jobs in the region, and Price says that’s just the beginning.

“We knew from the start that this expansion depended on a strong pipeline of highly skilled healthcare and technology professionals. Louisville has exceeded our expectations,” he says.

The company is actively collaborating with local partners to build a talent pipeline in diagnostics and healthcare technology. According to Price, the company is partnering with the University of Louisville and local vocational schools to introduce students to career pathways in molecular diagnostics.

At the same time, HealthTrackRx is attracting experienced professionals from across the country, and the city itself has been a strong selling point for families and young professionals alike.

The long-term vision includes continued job creation and development.

“The 230 jobs created so far are just the beginning. As our testing capabilities grow, so will opportunities for career development and advancement,” Price adds.

Solving a National Challenge: Delayed Diagnoses and Overprescribing

At the heart of HealthTrackRx’s mission is the commitment to faster, more actionable lab results. Price believes the traditional model, where results take days or even weeks, is no longer acceptable in modern medicine.

“For too long, patients have been prescribed antibiotics without knowing if they’re necessary—or effective—because traditional lab results take days or even weeks. That’s unacceptable in 2025,” he says.

By offering next-morning results to clinics from coast to coast, HealthTrackRx is eliminating guesswork and improving outcomes.

“Whether you’re visiting a concierge clinic in Los Angeles or a Medicaid clinic in rural Ohio, you’ll receive the same high-quality diagnostics by the very next morning,” Price explains. “That means fewer unnecessary prescriptions, faster recovery, and better care.”

Battling Antibiotic Resistance at Scale

Price emphasizes that most infections in the U.S. are treated without lab testing, which contributes directly to antibiotic resistance and poor outcomes.

“The reality is stark: most infections today are treated without testing. Physicians often prescribe antibiotics because they lack rapid tools at the point of care. Yet one-third of these prescriptions aren’t needed, and nearly 40% fail due to resistance,” he says.

The consequences are severe—not just for individuals, but for the healthcare system as a whole.

“Last year alone, there were more than 2.8 million antibiotic-resistant infections in the U.S., causing over 35,000 deaths and costing the system $4.6 billion,” Price explains. “By bringing actionable diagnostics to scale, we can help bend the cost curve, slow resistance, and most importantly—get people healthier, faster.”

A New Era of Antibiotic Stewardship

HealthTrackRx is also playing a critical role in the national effort to preserve the effectiveness of antibiotics through smarter prescribing practices.

“Decades of overprescribing have eroded the effectiveness of our most common antibiotics. Too often, the first drug prescribed doesn’t work,” Price says. “Our next-morning molecular results identify the infection and its resistance profile, so patients receive the right therapy the first time.”

As new antibiotics become available, Price stresses that responsible use will be essential.

“Our testing ensures targeted use, prolonging the effectiveness of these lifesaving drugs,” he says. “This isn’t just about today’s patients—it’s about preserving treatment options for the next generation.”

Innovation Fueled by Partnership

The Louisville project would not have been possible without collaboration with public officials, and Price is quick to recognize the role of government in driving meaningful change.

“This project would not have been possible without close collaboration with city and state leaders. Their support helped us accelerate construction, build recruitment pipelines, and ensure Kentuckians directly benefit from this investment,” he says.

The result is a statewide impact that reaches well beyond Louisville.

“Now, residents across the state—even in rural communities miles from Louisville—have access to the same state-of-the-art testing as those in major cities,” Price says. “That’s the power of public-private partnership: innovation that creates jobs, strengthens healthcare access, and delivers real impact for communities.”

Rethinking Healthcare From the Outside In

With over 20 years in the industry, Price brings a disruptive perspective to healthcare diagnostics, shaped in part by the fact that it wasn’t his first career.

“Healthcare is one area where we see all these incredible technological advancements happening, and yet the underlying delivery system remains arcane,” he says. “Access to newer—and in our case, cheaper—diagnostics and therapeutic solutions don’t reach the people who need them the most.”

That outsider’s mindset fuels HealthTrackRx’s culture of challenging the status quo.

“Coming into health care as a second career, I tend to approach these issues with an outsider’s perspective. There’s almost always a better way if the debt of the status quo doesn’t burden you,” Price adds.

With its new Louisville facility now fully operational, HealthTrackRx is setting a new benchmark for what infectious disease diagnostics can, and should, look like in the 21st century. Fast, accessible, accurate, and equitable. As Martin Price puts it, it’s all about getting people healthier, faster.
