Everything We Know About Bitcoin’s Creator

Updated on September 24, 2023

Cryptocurrency has, in the short time it has been around, taken the world of finance by storm. Millions of people from all over the world are now investors, and the number is predicted to increase in the coming future.

Cryptocurrency Goes Mainstream

As of 2020, cryptocurrency, especially Bitcoin has become a lot more mainstream, and accepted. A fifth of the American population has been found to have some form of bitcoin investment, younger generations are far more likely to invest in Bitcoin, or other cryptocurrency, than take any other, traditional investment path, a quarter of millennial millionaires have been found to have large chunks of their wealth invested in bitcoin, celebrities are endorsing the digital currency, and even a number of companies, like Starbucks, Paypal, and most famously Tesla, approve bitcoin payments, and have even made investments themselves. Needless to say, Bitcoin is becoming “normal”.

With this surge in popularity, many people, who’ve never had any experience with cryptocurrency, and don’t even know what a blockchain is, are beginning to become interested in bitcoin investments. No doubt, Bitcoin owes at least some of its popularity to the numerous crypto trading sites, which make buying and selling cryptocurrency easier than ever.

On top of that, cryptocurrency has become an incredibly popular payment method when it comes to iGaming. For those who don’t know, iGaming refers to all forms of online gambling and sports betting. Websites like DraftKings allow customers to wager on all the top sports, as well as play blackjack, poker, slots, and roulette for real money. And if you are a newbie, you can go through the blackjack strategy on the website. Best of all, you can place bets using cryptocurrency, such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, etc.

But, with the popularization, comes also the new interest in Bitcoin’s enigmatic founder, Satoshi Nakamoto. For 12 years now the founder of Bitcoin has managed to remain anonymous, only ever giving away hints about his identity here and there. Theories have sprouted around the man of mystery that is Satoshi Nakamoto. In this article, we will explore everything we know about Bitcoin’s creator.

Satoshi Nakamoto: What We Know?

To say that Satoshi has never revealed any private information is not quite true. In one of his last posts, before going M.I.A., Nakamoto stated that he is a middle aged Japanese man. This claim has been subject of debate, as many people have looked at the blogs he’s posted, and found that the timing doesn’t correlate to Japan’s time zone. Many also believe this to be a lie due to Nakamoto’s native-level English skills, and his use of typically British vernacular.

While doubts exist, people have pointed out that there are people who aren’t native-speakers, who can still speak and write on that level, and as for the time discrepancies, well it could be possible that Satoshi Nakamoto is simply a night owl, operating mostly during the night, and getting his rest during the day.

The prevailing theory is that Nakamoto is either British, or had Commonwealth origins, as he often used British vernacular, and has mentioned the London Times newspaper on numerous occasions.

In the last of the blog posts he made before retiring, Satoshi Nakamoto stated that he wished people would stop obsessing over his personal identity, and focus more so on the product, rather than on him. He claimed he didn’t like how the internet had painted him as a shadowy figure, operating from the shadows, and he believed it to be counter-productive to the goal of popularizing digital currency.

Theories on Mr. Nakamoto’s identity are still prevalent today, with one of the most popular being that Satoshi Nakamoto was never a person, but rather a group of people working together under one pseudonym.

Who is Satoshi Nakamoto?

Many theories have been posited regarding Satoshi Nakamoto’s identity. One of the most common ones is that Satoshi Nakamoto is actually California-resident Dorian Nakamoto. Certainly a lot of things line up. Dorian was a retired engineer, who would know exactly how Bitcoin needs to operate. Mr. Nakamoto was of Japanese descent, and of course, the shared name is a big clue.

However, Dorian Nakamoto denies his involvement with Bitcoin, or any form of cryptocurrency. To this day, Dorian is not willing to admit that he is Satoshi Nakamoto. Indeed, many crypto traders don’t believe there is any connection between the two Nakamotos.
