EMU Health, a multi-specialty outpatient medical facility in the Glendale section of Queens, NY, has announced the completion of the first surgery conducted at EMU by a doctor from its new affiliate, the renowned Rothman Orthopaedic Institute. The surgery was conducted by Robert M. Zbeda, M.D., a leading hand & wrist surgeon, who now sees patients at the EMU Health facility in Glendale, Queens.
“Along with my colleagues at Rothman Orthopaedics, I am excited to bring specialized surgical care to EMU Health,” said Dr. Zbeda. “I was born and raised in New York City, and it is an honor and privilege to take care of the wonderful, diverse, and hard-working people of Queens.”
Dr. Zbeda specializes in hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder surgery. A fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon, he treats all conditions of the upper extremity including fractures, tendon/ligamentous injuries, sports-related injuries, peripheral nerve conditions, and arthritis. He explained that “the patient had a tumor growing in her hand for three years. When she came in for a consultation, I immediately sent her for an MRI and planned for surgical removal. Fortunately, the tumor was benign and I expect the patient to make a full recovery.”
“Making eminent physicians such as Dr. Zbeda available to our patients in Queens reflects our vision of bringing world-class medicine right here to the local community, and is the latest benefit of our affiliation with Rothman Orthopaedics,” explained Daniel Lowy, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of EMU Health. “Making a positive difference in the community has been a key imperative in the founding and growth of EMU Health, and we’re proud to feel that our Glendale home is not only bringing an expanding set of world-class medical care to Queens families, but is emerging as a leading medical treatment destination across the entire NYC Metro area.”
“Congratulations to Dr. Zbeda and the team at EMU Health for a successful procedure – we look forward to continuing to set the standard for affordable musculoskeletal care in Queens and the surrounding areas,” said Alexander R. Vaccaro, M.D., Ph.D., MBA, President of Rothman Orthopaedic Institute, Richard H. Rothman Professor and Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics, and Professor of Neurosurgery at Thomas Jefferson University and Hospitals.
Christopher T. Olivia, M.D., of Rothman Orthopaedics, noted that “EMU Health is an ideal partner due to their commitment to bringing high-quality orthopaedic services to their communities, the very principles Rothman Orthopaedics was built on.”
