For National Robotics Week, students learn about healthcare robotics and careers in automation

Swisslog Healthcare, a global industry leader in medication management and transport automation solutions, invited University of Colorado Boulder robotics students to tour its state-of-the-art Technology Center as part of National Robotics Week. The tour took place on April 9 and aimed to spread awareness of careers in robotics and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) in the healthcare industry.

Half a dozen students in various areas of robotics studies, including Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science, toured the facility. Many of the students are members of the CU Boulder Robotics Club, the Collaborative AI and Robotics Lab and the Human Interaction and RObotics [HIRO] Group.

As part of Swisslog Healthcare’s North American headquarters, the Technology Center offers an immersive test-and-learn environment and showroom useful for training, education, and customer evaluation of pharmacy automation solutions and pneumatic tube systems. The tour offered an interactive experience, allowing students to witness firsthand the impact of robots and automation in healthcare. Students saw the exterior user experience and interior robotics of the BoxPicker. They received a demonstration of the PillPick, an automated packaging and dispensing robot capable of collecting and packaging unique medication(s) for individual patients in a hospital.

“We were happy to open our doors to CU Boulder students to share an example of how they can use their robotics expertise once they graduate, as supporting the future of the healthcare technology workforce is important to the greater community,” said Amanda Costanzi, Head of Marketing & Communications at Swisslog Healthcare. “Inviting students into the Technology Center to show them first-hand how robotics contribute to the healthcare industry and impact patient care was the perfect way to celebrate National Robotics Week.”

The Technology Center allows Swisslog Healthcare to strengthen community connections and demonstrate career opportunities in STEM for aspiring students. To learn more about what the Technology Center has to offer, please visit www.swisslog-healthcare.com/en-us/customer-care/automation-academy
