Following Sheba’s Recognition as the Eighth-Best Hospital in the World, ARC Continues to Transform the Future of Healthcare with Groundbreaking AI Initiatives
ARC, the global health innovation engine and transformation arm of world-leading hospital Sheba Medical Center, today announced the launch of three groundbreaking artificial intelligence initiatives that will transform modern hospital care and healthcare delivery: a state-of-the-art AI Center that will unify and accelerate AI-driven medical innovation; Project K, the world’s first AI-powered emergency department designed to revolutionize patient care and efficiency; and the Sheba AI Academy, powered by ARC, an institution dedicated to equipping healthcare professionals with AI-driven skills to shape the future of medicine.
These initiatives are creating a paradigm shift in how AI is integrated into every aspect of hospital operations, from diagnostics and emergency response to clinical training and medical research. By leveraging advanced AI technologies, ARC aims to improve patient outcomes, optimize hospital workflows, positioning Sheba at the forefront of global AI-driven healthcare innovation.
The AI Center will bring together a diverse network of startups, research projects, and technology companies under one roof—creating a powerhouse ecosystem focused on developing AI health delivery solutions and implementing AI within the workflows of healthcare. The AI Center’s primary goal is to turn Sheba Medical Center into an AI-based hospital. The center will work with existing solutions to implement them within Sheba, and develop new AI solutions that are needed in the healthcare market.
Under the leadership of world-renowned AI expert Dr. Ayelet Akselrod-Ballin, the center will drive AI-powered solutions in early disease detection, precision diagnostics, and personalized medicine.
Last week, Sheba Medical Center was ranked by Newsweek as the eighth-best hospital in the world, reinforcing its position as a global leader in healthcare delivery and innovation and proving the power of investing in innovation to elevate hospital performance. The new AI initiatives are a tangible example of this model in action, being built using reinvested profits from last year’s successful exits of Innovalve and Belkin—two health-tech startups incubated within ARC. This validates ARC’s ability to nurture and commercialize breakthrough health technologies and further proves the sustainability of its innovation ecosystem, where success is reinvested to drive the next wave of transformation in healthcare.
In parallel, the Sheba AI Academy, powered by ARC, will provide healthcare professionals—doctors, nurses, and hospital staff—with training and tools to harness AI for improved clinical decision-making, diagnostics, and hospital operations. This initiative is designed to turn every Sheba staff member into an “AI-enabled” professional, ensuring that the latest advancements in AI are seamlessly integrated into patient care. The school’s educational model includes digital courses, hands-on workshops, and real-world AI application training.
At the frontline of patient care, Project K, Sheba’s revolutionary AI-driven emergency department, which is already seeing dozens of patients in its pilot phase, will fundamentally change how hospitals manage acute medical situations. The system will allow patients to share their medical history just once, with AI automatically compiling comprehensive health summaries for doctors—saving time, reducing paperwork, improving diagnostic accuracy, and enhancing the patient experience. The AI will also compile a full patient medical background summary, recommend imaging and laboratory tests, and provide clinical decision support, enabling doctors to manage multiple patients simultaneously and prioritize those in critical condition.
As part of its ambitious expansion, ARC is actively recruiting dozens of AI researchers, data scientists, and machine learning experts to join the AI Center, reinforcing ARC’s position as a global powerhouse in AI-driven health innovation.
Prof. Yitshak Kreiss, Director General of Sheba Medical Center, said:“Sheba has long been a leader in pioneering the future of medicine, and today, we take another historic step forward. AI is no longer an abstract concept—it is a tangible force transforming healthcare. With the AI Center, Sheba AI Academy, and Project K, we are not only embracing AI but embedding it into the very fabric of hospital care. These initiatives will ensure that every patient receives faster, smarter, and more personalized treatment, while also empowering the next generation of medical professionals with cutting-edge AI expertise.”
Prof. Eyal Zimlichman, Director of ARC Innovation and Chief Transformation and Innovation Officer at Sheba Medical Center and newly appointed Chief AI Officer, said: “With these launches, we are not just implementing AI in medicine; we are building the world’s first truly AI-powered hospital. AI will drive everything from patient intake to clinical decision-making, from research to emergency care. This is the beginning of a transformation that will make hospital care more precise, efficient, and patient-centered than ever before. And what makes this even more extraordinary is that we are reinvesting our own health-tech success to fund the future of medicine.”
Dr. Ayelet Akselrod-Ballin, newly appointed Director and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the ARC AI Center, said: “Joining ARC at this pivotal moment for AI in healthcare presents an opportunity to advance the integration of AI across all facets of medicine—from diagnostics and treatment planning to personalized patient care. The AI Center is a significant step toward embedding AI into clinical workflows, ensuring that medical professionals have the tools to improve efficiency and outcomes.
