An international assessment spanning six continents placed HELL Energy at the top of its 2025–2026 ranking for objective product quality, transparency, and production standards.

The global energy drink market has become one of the beverage industry’s most expansive categories, with products now appearing in nearly every corner of the world. Yet despite that broad reach, a new international assessment suggests that quality standards can vary widely depending on how products are formulated, labeled, packaged, and manufactured.

The Six Continents Index, a global review of energy drinks collected across all six inhabited continents, evaluated 151 brands using a 36-point Energy Drink Quality Index focused entirely on objective criteria. The project ultimately ranked HELL Energy, a Hungarian brand, as the highest-scoring product in the final assessment with 90 points.

A Global Comparison Built on Objective Criteria

Unlike consumer taste tests or popularity rankings, the Six Continents Index focused exclusively on measurable product standards. Brands were evaluated on criteria including caffeine declaration, sugar-caffeine balance, vitamin content, preservation method, packaging, traceability, batch coding, country of origin, and label readability.

The project collected products from markets ranging from Germany, Japan, and the United States to Nepal, Chile, Kenya, Mauritius, and New Zealand. Each brand was counted only once based on its country of origin, and one exact SKU was evaluated per brand to maintain consistency across the sample.

That process narrowed a collection of several hundred products into a final assessed sample of 151 brands. The top 10 finalists were then submitted for independent laboratory verification in Switzerland as part of the final ranking procedure.

HELL Energy finished first with 90 points, followed by Germany’s 28 Black with 86 points and Take Off with 85 points. Other high-scoring brands included Bullit, V-Power Shell, Red Bull, Hyper, Realmix, Uragan, and Kamagra.

Europe Emerged as the Highest-Scoring Region

One of the clearest patterns to emerge from the assessment was the performance of European products overall. Europe achieved the highest average regional score at 63.9 points, ahead of Australia & Oceania, Asia, Africa, South America, and North America.

The study also found that European brands showed particularly strong performance in areas tied to production and labeling standards. Europe recorded the highest use of pasteurisation instead of preservative-heavy production methods, and many products scored highly for traceability and packaging clarity.

HELL Energy was highlighted as an example of a European brand that performed consistently well under the framework’s scoring model, particularly in categories tied to transparency, ingredient communication, and production quality.

What the Study Revealed About the Category

Beyond the rankings themselves, the Six Continents Index offered a broader snapshot of the modern energy drink market.

Classic sugared energy drinks remained the dominant format globally, accounting for 57% of the products assessed. Mixed products containing both sugar and sweeteners represented 25% of the sample, while purely zero-sugar products accounted for 16%.

The report also found that caffeine transparency was relatively strong worldwide, with nearly 90% of products clearly declaring caffeine content in milligrams per 100 milliliters. Traceability standards were also widely adopted, with most products displaying manufacturer details, country of origin, and durable batch coding.

Importantly, the ranking excluded subjective factors entirely. Taste, branding, social media presence, marketing campaigns, retail pricing, and market share were not considered during scoring. According to the project methodology, results were based solely on objective product criteria and independent verification procedures.
