Villa Marin Opens Its Health Center to Non-Residents, Expanding Access for Marin County Community to Top-Tier Senior Care

Updated on May 22, 2026

New offering delivers 5-star rated care, on-site physicians and a full continuum of services to local seniors

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — May 26, 2026 Villa Marin, a resident-owned, “vitalist” aging and conscious continuing care retirement community (CCRC) in Marin County, today announced that its Health Center is now open to the broader community, extending its nationally recognized, high-quality care to non-residents for the first time.

Previously available exclusively to residents, Villa Marin’s Health Center provides short-term rehabilitation, skilled nursing, assisted living support, and access to on-site physicians all within a single, integrated care environment. The expansion reflects a growing demand for more personalized, outcomes-driven senior care options in the region.

Villa Marin’s Skilled Nursing Facility holds a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the highest possible designation, placing it among the top-performing facilities in the nation for quality, safety and patient outcomes.

“Opening our Health Center to the broader community is a natural extension of our mission to deliver exceptional, person-centered care,” said Nicole Mashburn, CEO of Villa Marin. “We’ve built a model that prioritizes proactive health, strong clinical outcomes, and whole-person wellbeing. We’re proud to extend that level of care to serve more families in the Marin County community.”

The Health Center is distinguished by above-average staffing levels, with care delivered exclusively by licensed nurses (RNs, LVNs) and certified nursing assistants which ensures a high level of clinical expertise and attention. Residents and patients also benefit from 24/7 skilled nursing support and regular access to on-site physicians – a feature not commonly found in comparable communities.

In addition to clinical care, Villa Marin’s approach emphasizes a full continuum of services – from independent living to assisted living, rehabilitation, and long-term care – allowing individuals to receive seamless, coordinated care without needing to relocate as their needs evolve.

Karina Tapia, Health Administrator at Villa Marin, brings more than 25 years of experience across senior care, in executive leadership roles in Skilled Nursing facilities, Memory Care, and Assisted and Independent Living. She is focused on enhancing care delivery through operational improvements, expanded wellness programming, and a holistic approach to aging.

“Aging well is about more than medical care. It’s about supporting the whole person,” said Tapia. “That means addressing physical health, mental wellbeing, social connection, and daily engagement. By opening our Health Center to the community, we’re able to extend that philosophy and provide a higher standard of care to more individuals and families who need it.”

The expansion comes at a time when families are increasingly seeking senior care options that combine clinical excellence with a more personalized, community-based experience. As a not-for-profit, resident-focused organization with high staff-to-resident ratios and an integrated care model, Villa Marin’s Health Center offers a differentiated alternative to traditional senior care facilities by blending medical expertise with a strong emphasis on dignity, independence, and overall wellbeing.
