3.      Anti-inflammatory medication

For the first two days of your recovery process, applying nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) is essential. Some are oral, while there is also an option of rubbing or spraying to the area of injury.

4.      Heat

The application of heat on a sprained ankle increases the blood flow to the area. This helps in relaxing the tight muscles around, eases pain, and ultimately speeds up the healing process. However, use the method only after the swelling has gone down. 

5.      Massage

Massage aids in blood flow to the area and eases the pain. Some people are not able to massage the ankle when the injury is still excruciating. In this case, one should consult a qualified massage therapist for a less painful massage around the ankle.
