USANA Named a Top Silicon Slope Earner in Utah as Growing Health Science Company

108

For the 13th year in a row, USANA has been named to Utah Business magazine’s Fast 50 list. This impressive feat earned them the 35th spot in the ranks of the fastest-growing companies for the state in 2020. The health sciences company is dedicated to creating natural products based on scientific research and holistic wellness.

Getting named to the Fast 50 in the Silicon Slopes is best understood by looking first at the growth within the slopes. Not all are familiar with the hub that has steadily grown to house many large startups and tech companies. There is a lot of competition among fast-growing innovative companies within this bustling section of Utah.

The Rising Silicon Slopes

Many are familiar with Silicon Valley located within California on the West Coast, but Utah is the western state that holds the Silicon Slopes. This tongue-in-cheek reference is used to describe the sprawling Utah mountain-scape that is home to a bustling technological community that mirrors Silicon Valley in some ways. This emerging force of innovation started within Salt Lake City, Utah, but has expanded to include Midvale, Park City, Cache Valley, Provo and surrounding areas. While Utah is known for its wild beauty and spectacular geological landscapes, many aren’t familiar with the ever-bustling tech landscape growing in Utah.

The initial start of the tech businesses in the Silicon Slopes started in 1968 with the world’s first computer graphics company and several other computer programming startups. In the early 1990s, the second wave of new companies came rolling into the Silicon Slopes. Since this time, the Silicon Slopes has continued to grow with companies that pull top talent from nearby universities, including Brigham Young University.

The area is well served with transport links, seated right next to the Salt Lake City International Airport that offers a two-hour flight from the Silicon Slopes to Silicon Valley. But it isn’t as crowded as the California areas surrounding Silicon Valley. The cost of living is lower, and the commute is far easier in the Silicon Slopes of Utah. This is drawing a lot of talent and top tech startups that are looking for the growth hacking landscape of innovation without the overcrowded problems of Silicon Valley. For these reasons, there is a talent being pulled to the area.

Utah has landed on lists ranking the top five states for businesses more than once. The historic state isn’t just beautiful, it has been home to a number of key advances, including the first electronic television transmission in 1927. From Atari to Skullcandy and Ancestry, the state has been home to a number of major companies over the years.

Fast 50 List for Utah Business Magazine 2020

When Utah Business Magazine creates the Fast 50 list, they have a lot of top companies to look at. There are plenty of competitive businesses within the Silicon Slopes and surrounding areas of Utah.

The magazine looks solely at annual revenue growth to pinpoint those companies making large strides for the year. The chosen businesses are leaders spanning across many different industries, like food, automotive, furniture, power, credit and so many more. USANA has landed on those lists consistently for their continual year-over-year increases on their earnings reports.

USANA is a science-based company focused on products that promote healthy living. Founded in 1992 by the internationally renowned microbiologist and immunologist Dr. Myron Wentz, USANA was created to fill a gap in health products. “I dream of a world free from the pain and suffering of degenerative disease,” said Dr. Wentz. “Share my vision. Love life and live it to its fullest in happiness and health.”

Dr. Wentz wanted to improve health by feeding the body’s cells exactly the kind of nutrition they need to thrive. His theories were that high-quality nutritional products would make a huge impact in supporting the various systems of the body. USANA creates a number of science-based health products, from toothpaste and skincare to protein shakes and energy drinks. USANA’s innovative solutions to healthy living products are based on scientific research that supports a holistic approach to long term wellness.

USANA products can be purchased through the company or an independent distributor (called an USANA associate). The company sells to over 20 countries worldwide. Rather than shelve products with retailers, the company model relies on associates to sell and distribute products for a commission.

The company continues to grow, landing on the Fast 50 list for the 13th time in a row.

USANA’s president, Jim Brown, said of the honor: “Our continuous involvement on the Fast 50 list wouldn’t be possible without our exceptional independent sales force, hard-working employees, and innovative health and beauty products. Being included on this list with other amazing Utah companies is an honor and privilege.”
