What is DHT?
DHT or dihydrotestosterone is a male androgen that plays an important role in male growth and is responsible for a variety of factors in human body growth including chest hair, deep voice, and skeletal muscle. Women also produce DHT but in very small amounts. DHT is produced inside the body when the hormone testosterone is converted to dihydrotestosterone by the enzymatic action of 5-alpha reductase.
Conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone
What converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT)?
The androgen hormone injected into the body is testosterone but in order to be transported through tissues such as the brain or skin, testosterone bonds and the enzyme 5-alpha reductase provide dihydrotestosterone. DHT is often influenced by external and internal factors that contribute to elevated hormonal levels in the body.
For example, some say that stress causes hair loss but indirectly. Depression causes the release of cortisol hormone in large quantities which in turn increases adrenaline testosterone and dihydrotestosterone.Men with an enlarged prostate will also increase DHT levels and there is a perception that the process behind the traditional male pattern is that the immune system protects men with prostatic adenocarcinoma.
How does DHT cause hair loss?
The role of DHT in hair loss is that DHT binds to androgen receptors present in hair follicles. The combination of DHT in the hair follicles causes a change within the hair growth cycle and leads to hair loss. It is known that DHT interacts with follicle receptors five times higher than testosterone.
How DHT attacks hair follicles
DHT hair loss in men is a male pattern and causes hair loss or hair loss near the hairline, temple, and crown. Eventually, this type of hair loss spread, resulting in a horse, e-shaped ring around t, the bottom of the skin.
