The Clock is Ticking…

Updated on February 15, 2022

I have to admit that I’m not much of a sports buff. But, watching the 2022 Winter Olympics is another story. My amazement in the athletes is beyond their personal commitment to their chosen sport, but the inspiration in their sheer creativity.

And no matter what inspires you whether it is your favorite song, a coworker’s ability to listen, or a loved one’s smile, inspiration is all around you.

Which one of your creative gifts is nudging you for some attention? Do you find yourself ignoring your own creativity? Believe me, just making an hour a week to feed your creative soul will be a healing experience.

What is your creative goal? To just make some time for yourself? To have some fun? All of our lives are busy and if you’re like me, making time for myself is difficult. And even though I am in the business of being creative, I’m a big believer in carving out time in my life for creativity.

But what else could be holding you back?

In my 3rd article, “Let’s Face It,” I talked about how sometimes in my own career, I didn’t always think my ideas were good enough to share. If you find yourself lacking confidence, start small, but at the same time, challenge yourself.

One of your first big hurdles is going to be carving out the time to create. As I said earlier, you should devote a little time every week to your passion. But, I think once you start to get into a rhythm, you will crave the joy of creating. Don’t wait until you have “time” to explore your gifts, the clock is ticking.

Here are some tips on how to find the time:

15 MINUTES is all it takes to get started on a project. First you’ll need to make a list of what tools you’ll need. If your time is really stretched, set a timer.

ALLOW YOURSELF to get lost in the experience. If you don’t spend much time creating, you may feel uncomfortable at first. Let your imagination get the best of you!

LOOK FORWARD to spending some time with yourself and your ideas. Think about how long you have waited to explore your own gifts.

STAY INSPIRED even if it feels difficult to stay inspired. Talk to a friend about your creative plans, put on some music when you are in the creative moment, and journal about how much you enjoyed creating.

I was inspired to create my online course “Spark Your Creativity, The Steps to a Successful Creative Journey” to help others find the confidence to begin exploring their talents. The course touches on all aspects of uncovering your own creativity and how to live an inspired life.

I would love to hear from you about how you are beginning to make time for yourself.
