Reco Intensive Gives Its Patients Unique Insight With Cutting Edge Neurointegration

Updated on June 14, 2022

Delray Beach addiction treatment center Reco Intensive is known for their uniquely progressive and holistic approach to their clients’ recoveries. And one of the more exciting parts of this approach involves a collection of cutting edge techniques collectively known as neurointegration.

The process of neurointegration begins with the creation of each client’s “brain map.” Using electrodes that measure brain activity and display the results in real-time on a computer screen, a trained neurointegration technician will conduct a variety of simple tests that will measure the client’s brain activity in a variety of circumstances.

Then, Reco’s neurointegration team will explain the meaning of those brain responses to the client, including how those responses may have been contributing to the patterns of dysfunctional behavior that fueled their struggles with addiction. Using the insights provided by the brain map, the patient and team can move on to fixing the problem via neurotherapy, which can help the brain— and thus the patient— to find a healthier balance of activity.

In neurotherapy, oscillating electrodes mirror the brain’s activity, which can help stimulate its understimulated areas and help areas that are overstimulated to calm down. After a few of these electrotherapy sessions, another session of brain mapping will allow the patients and team to observe any changes and improvements that have resulted from this brain training, which in turn will guide future treatments.

Each neurotherapy session will also allow patients to spend some time in a device called a “Biomat,” which stimulates their entire body with an infusion of infrared rays, delivered through healing amethyst crystals that help channel them. This will promote faster metabolism and cell division, which in turn will increase the body’s rate of physical regeneration and energize the patient as a whole.

Another component of Reco’s neurotherapy program is called vibroacoustics. This form of therapy consists of specialized healing sound waves that are delivered to them through headphones. These sound waves resonate at specific frequencies meant to relax or activate different parts of the brain, and are specifically curated by a vibroacoustic therapist to target a patient’s particular pathologies. The process can also come with a variety of other physical benefits due to its physically stimulating body effect, including reduction of stress hormones, improved circulation and digestion, and relief of hyperactivity and fatigue.

If this all sounds a little too out there for you to wrap your brain around, don’t worry; though neurointegration is a relatively new field, the data suggests that it is one that shows enormous promise when it comes to treating patients struggling with substance abuse and other mental health issues.

For instance, one study done on a group of patients suffering from opioid addiction who had also been prescribed medication assisted treatment suggested that those who additionally received neurointegration treatment had fewer somatic and depression symptoms and better overall mental health. These patients also reported a lower desire to use opioids, fewer withdrawal symptoms, and more hope for a positive treatment outcome.

Another study done on a mixed substance abusing population suggested that patients whose treatment included biofeedback stayed in treatment longer than patients given only conventional therapy. Even more startling and promising, 77 percent of the biofeedback patients were still abstinent twelve months later compared to only 44 percent of the controls.

Other studies have shown that neurofeedback can provide benefits for patients suffering from eating disorders and obesity, which are conditions that have much in common with addiction in that they involve compulsive behaviors and struggles to enact appropriate self-control.

Though more established methods of psychotherapy should also be part of the treatment plan for any patient seeking recovery from substance abuse, as is the case in Reco Intensive’s comprehensive program, these innovations present an exciting addition for patients looking to heal themselves as a whole person and to absorb the best that the industry has to offer.
